LM Studio on Windows: a checklist before adding SpiritBox Ultimate

By Ryan, SpiritBox developer · October 15, 2026

SpiritBox Ultimate is a separate application for Guide-based conversations, saved chats and spoken replies. The current 1.12.12 / R7.12-rc1 Early Access package costs $199 USD once. Its bundled spiritbox-llm engine is primary; LM Studio is optional. This checklist covers the optional LM Studio route on Windows. For the bundled route, start with Minimal and QUICK_START.md.

1. Separate a working model from a working server

A response in LM Studio's own chat shows that your model can answer there. Another application also needs access to its server. LM Studio provides a server control in its Developer tab. Its official server instructions explain how to start it.

Record your model identifier and server address for your own setup notes. A working LM Studio chat alone does not establish that Ultimate can reach the server. Follow the package's LMSTUDIO_FIRST.md for the application connection steps.

2. Check Docker before adding another application

The current Windows package requires Docker Desktop with WSL2 and Linux containers on Windows. Check your existing Docker installation against Docker's Windows instructions.

The model and application share your machine's resources. Model size, context and configuration affect hardware needs. Current release evidence does not establish a universal minimum RAM or VRAM figure for Ultimate. Docker's own minimum requirements are not a guarantee that your chosen model will run well.

3. Identify what you want from Ultimate

LM Studio already provides saved conversations and reusable prompt presets. Those functions alone are not a reason to purchase another application.

Consider Ultimate if you want to evaluate its combined Guide, conversation and spoken-reply interface and are comfortable operating the required local setup. Write down one concrete task you want to improve. That gives you something to evaluate beyond a feature list.

4. Know what the download contains

The 1.12.12 / R7.12-rc1 download includes the application, Windows setup scripts, bundled-engine quick start, optional LM Studio guidance and third-party notices. Models are separate. New installation: extract into a new empty folder and start with Minimal and QUICK_START.md; LMSTUDIO_FIRST.md covers the optional backend. Existing installation: follow UPDATING.md and run 4_Update_SpiritBox.bat from the separately extracted new release folder. Do not start a second installation against the same container names. Preserve backups of configuration, data and the previous release.

The offer does not include a configured, tested n8n, Telegram or ComfyUI workflow bundle. Do not buy this package expecting those workflows to be ready to use.

5. Read the testing boundary

Historical R6 evidence: an earlier private build completed one model response and one voice clip, but its initial stream became stuck. The subsequent streaming fix passed offline tests using saved text and audio. A fresh R6 real-model run and installation on a separate clean PC were unverified. Review the current release evidence for 1.12.12 / R7.12-rc1 checks and remaining limits.

This checklist helps you assess prerequisites. It is not an installation certification or proof that your hardware and model configuration will work.

Your decision

If your current LM Studio interface already meets your needs, keep using it. If you want to evaluate Ultimate's combined interface and accept the setup and Early Access limits, review the current $199 USD offer and buyer policies.
